About the Company

By The Sea Strategy Co. is a one‑woman consulting practice dedicated to helping museums, libraries, and archives strengthen their marketing, clarify their voice, and connect more deeply with the communities they serve. I tailor every project to the specific needs of museums, libraries, and archives because I understand this industry in a way generalist marketers and large agencies simply don’t. My background brings your organization ten steps ahead from day one. I’m energetic, idea‑driven, creative, analytical, and genuinely excited about the many avenues for growth that cultural institutions often don’t realize they have. I build strategies with pride and purpose.

Meet Your Marketer

I’m Jenna Bennett, a historian‑archivist who spent years surrounded by manuscripts, museum boxes, and the quiet thrill of discovery. Four years into a PhD and three master’s degrees later, I realized I had misplaced something important: my creativity. The painting, drawing, and designing that once lit me up had faded into footnotes.

So I pivoted. Hard.

Marketing didn’t just give me a new career path, it gave me my spark back. Suddenly I was blending research with imagination, strategy with storytelling, and finding joy in the colorful, messy, human side of how people connect.

My academic background still shapes everything I do. I bring historical perspective, archival precision, and the pattern‑spotting instincts honed from years of studying how people communicate. As an autistic person who masks at a high level, I’ve spent my life reading people closely — a lived reality that taught me to notice nuance, anticipate needs, and understand what makes audiences respond.

And yes, I’m still a historian at heart. I research and publish independently on twentieth‑century American material culture and food history, keeping one foot in the archives while the rest of me dances in the world of marketing.

It’s an unexpected mix — part scholar, part storyteller, part strategist — but it’s exactly where I’m meant to be.

“I grew up with one guiding rule from my grandfather [pictured], who built my family’s bus company from the ground up: “If you do a job, you do it right or not at all.” This blue collar work ethic carried me through academia, and now is the backbone of my career as your marketing strategist. Whether you need tailored guidance or full‑scale support, I show up with the kind of attitude that makes collaborating with me an easy choice.”
